Back in the Smoke

Back in the city, back to work. I do not approve. But, I had a very lovely long weekend at home in Yorkshire. Got to see my mum on Mother’s Day, Brownie Points in the bag there. And I got to chill out a bit because the end of last week saw me coming down with a cold, and I was exhausted! The cold lingers too, but it’s getting better. I’m sure I never usually have this much lurgy in a year. I am eating fruit today, just in case that is in fact good for me, as people keep trying to convince me.

I saw the dogs and the chickens, I communed with nature. I got lots of wool from Nin (my grandmother, I feel I always have to say, but really I should just leave it at Nin) and some patterns so maybe I will actually start a new project some time soon. I’ve also set her on a project, making me an Aran cardy. Ha.

I need to write up my review for book 18. Very much enjoyed it too. I think I need to speed up some if I’m going to reach that 100 books target. But, enough of that, here’s something fun I think people, and by people I mean my mum, will like. Extreme Sheep Art. Apparently most of it is real. If it isn’t, I’m saying it is anyway.

Blah Blah I’m So Boring Bring Me a Scone

This is one of those, ‘I have nothing to say but damn it I’m going to say something anyway’, posts.

I’m on one of the slowest computers in the known world and it’s driving me mad.

I’m home, as in, home in Yorkshire, not my flat in London. The word home is kind of arbitrary for me. But it’s Mum’s 50th birthday bash this evening, and I am wearing a dress! OK, calm down, it’s a dress over trousers so it hardly counts and will in fact just look like a long top. We went shopping last night and although I found some very lovely trousers, there was not a nice top in sight. Lots of the things that are in at the moment make me look a fair few months pregnant. I’m not, I swear, I just happen to have boobs.

Anyway, shopping always makes me feel crappy about myself. It’s the lighting in the changing rooms right? That’s why I look so hideous? And the stores, they have changed the sizes on me yes, which is why nothing fits quite as good as it used to? No? Hmm, I didn’t think so. Which is why I am going to attempt that exercise thing again. A new swimming pool has opened not far from where I live (if I have to go out of my way I won’t go, as demonstrated), and so I’m going to take up swimming again. I’m telling the world so you can all yell at me if I don’t go. Cos that’ll work I’m sure. But Monday I plan on going. I’m going to make myself go once a week to start with. At least. I must go that once, and if I go twice, well then, yay me. And maybe I’ll even get into the habit of going…we can only hope.

It’s nice to be home, except for the terrible bad dream I had last night about a ghost, and also Luka from ER was there, and the ghost was a woman and she set me on fire. I woke up so scared I was too afraid to get up to go to the loo, in case she was there and got me. My duvet = a safe space, OK? Obviously Ghost Whisperer is too intense for me.

Ho Ho Ho

I am back in London, my time at home was very relaxing and it’s a bit of a shame to be back in all the hustle and bustle, but while Christmas may be over for some, I had one gift awaiting me when I got back. And it is this:

Oh happy happy joy joy!!! The gift was the DS, I just got the game myself, and figured I’d better write this now or I would be lost to Brain Training forever. Isn’t it pretty? Now I need more games. What are good games? A game I used to love for my PC was Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars. I like ones where you have to solve puzzles and stuff to move on (even if the main character for that was well annoying). Well, I say like. I get very frustrated when I can’t to it and had to download the cheats for that one when I got stuck. Will have a look online at what there is.

Moving on from DS talk, to my knitting. Here is a picture of my first attempt:

It’s a scarf. I would say ‘obviously’, but is it obvious? I don’t know. It’s not quite as pretty as the DS, and there are a couple of dropped stitches and threads I need to tidy, but I am enjoying doing it and I think I’m getting better. I’d like to be able to knit a jumper already but must have patience. Of course now my time is torn between the DS and this. My hands will be busy anyway.

Last night I watched While You Were Sleeping for about the 30th time, though I fell asleep before one of my favourite speeches:

Lucy: The truth was that I fell in love with you.
Ox: You fell in love with me?
Lucy: No, N-o, yes. All of you. I went from being all alone to being a fiancee, a daughter a granddaughter, a sister and a friend.

Luckily I woke up in time for my absolute favourite last line: “Peter once asked me when I fell in love with Jack. And I told him, “It was while you were sleeping.”

Aww. Now I’m afraid I’m going to go play my DS. It has been nice knowing you all. :)
