I am a TV addict. I know there are people who may say ‘And?’ because they have long thought so, but I don’t think it became truly official until just recently, when I started writing the dates of the next episodes of my shows in my diary. Yep, there they are, all marked out. Or should I say, there they were. For now my carefully researched dates are off. And why? Because of the writers’ strike. Prison Break is on hiatus until January, with only five episodes left, Grey’s Anatomy has three left. Heroes just the two. My favourite Pushing Daisies just three. If this strike isn’t sorted soon, I will be TV show-less. It’s like the opposite feeling of counting down to Christmas as a child. Every new week that passes means one less episode for Carrie.
Not only that, but some shows are in a seeming limbo land. When will they air? Are you telling me I may not have any new Battlestar Galactica until 2009? 2009?! Are you kidding me? After the series cliffhanger ending? I have already been very patient, more NOW please! Actually, 2009 may be better than nothing, seeing as, at the moment, the whole production is on hold indefinitely. The actors are on suspension with no pay, and they may wish to end their existing contracts to find work elsewhere. Bottom line is, there’s nothing to say the BSG will be given the ending it deserves, or even an ending at all. Frak. I could weep.
And Lost? Eight episodes have been filmed but when is it coming out, when!!!?? When am I going to be able to start discussing new theories, instead of recycling old ones? There’s only so many times you can talk about the damn polar bears and whispy smoke monster. I need new action. I need to know how they get off the frickin island already!
So you see, I am an addict. I am lost without my Lost, broken without my Break, afraid without my Heroes…well, you get the idea.
Not that any such plea would be heard, but for goodness sake, give the writers what they want! If they are asking to be paid in gold bullion or pizza, do it! Without them, there are no shows and all we have left is crappy Reality TV. (I have a whole other rant for RT, which is basically crippling proper shows because of the sheer amount of people tuning in. Dancing With the Stars anyone?) What, is your brain too tiny to follow actual plot?
I don’t understand why this has been going on as long as it has. It’s a no-brainer for me. Give them what they want or no TV? Oooh, that’s a toughy for sure. The producers are greedy. Yes Mr Producer, I am calling you greedy.
It’s possible an intervention is needed.
